12-year-old facing manslaughter charge in the accidental death of his 14-year-old cousin in Brooklyn

NYPD were called to Howard Houses located at 80 Osborn Steet on June 2nd on the report of a shooting at around 10:43 a.m.

On arrival, police located a 14-year-old teen unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital by EMS, where he was pronounced deceased.

According to reports the teen’s grandfather had allegedly fallen asleep after taking a slew of sleeping pills. While he was asleep the boy and his 12-year-old cousin had found a shotgun and were playing with the weapon when it discharged.

Police say the 12-year-old has been charged with manslaughter, criminal possession of a weapon, and criminally negligent homicide.
