14-year-old girl charged in the fatal stabbing of Jose Valarezo in the Bronx

NYPD said a group of teens were attempting to steal a scooter from the corner of East 170th Street and Morris Avenue at approximately 7 a.m. on October 17.

When the alarm on the scooter went off, Jose Valarezo, 35, exited a building and confronted the teens. A physical fight escalated, and a 14-year-old girl allegedly stabbed Valarezo in the groin. EMS rushed Valarezo to Bronx Care Health System, where he was pronounced deceased.

She is facing charges including murder, manslaughter, grand larceny and criminal weapons possession.

According to reports, the girl told police that Valarezo was armed with a handgun and had been trying to steal a motorbike. She and the other men chased him, and a man who was staying with her was the one who did the stabbing.
