15-year-old Josue Lopez-Ortega was fatally shot and a second boy was injured outside of a NYC rec center

NYPD were called to the Police Athletic League, Inc. New South Bronx Center on January 19th just before 9:00pm.

On arrival police and paramedics located 15-year-old, later identified as Josue Lopez-Ortega, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head, and a 16-year-old who was shot in the leg. Both teens were rushed to Lincoln Hospital where Lopez-Ortega was pronounced deceased.

Police said the teens were in a group when the unidentified shooter exited a gray Jeep and shot three times before fleeing the scene eastbound on Longwood Avenue.

Update March 10th
Jamir Scarbro, 20, was arrested in Charlotte by the US Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force on March 8th. Police said Scarbro is curently being held at Mecklenburg County Jail and is expected to be extradited to New York City to face charges.
