16-year-old Evette Jeffrey fatally shot outside a Bronx school

NYPD responded to a shot spotter activation near Bronx Career and College Preparatory High School on May 12th at approximately 5:00pm.

On arrival police located 16-year-old Evette Jeffrey suffering from a gunshot wound to her head. She was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, where she died of her injuries.

According to police, the girl’s death is believed to have been caused by a fight between two boys on the school grounds.

Update: According to reports, the 13-year-old suspect, whose identity has not been released because of his age, was taken into custody around 8:25 a.m. on May 19 after the NYPD Fugitive Task Force located him at a family friend’s residence. He faces multiple charges, including two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, manslaughter, two counts related to illegal weapon possession, unlawful possession of a weapon on school property, and possession of a firearm in a restricted area.

The 13-year-old has been accused of handing the weapon to a 14-year-old boy who shot the gun.

The 14-year-old boy was caught on May 14th while entering a taxi. Police said he is facing charges of second-degree murder and attempted murder, first-degree manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.
