NYPD responded to a check on welfare at a third-floor apartment at 162 East 100th St. on February 11th.
Police arrived to find 56-year-old Ana Nieves fully clothed in the bathtub. Police said the victim had blood on her face and contusions.
The victim’s niece 30-year-old Kristie Miro, who tried to stop officers from enterning, allegedly used a hammer to beat her aunt to death. Police believe the two had an ongoing dispute that escalated.
According to Abc7ny.com, Miro is known to police and has a criminal history, as well as past treatment for emotional distress. Nieves also had a lengthy criminal history, linked to narcotics.
