The NYC 2023 Homicide Victim List is available here

NYPD were called for a check on wellness at an apartment at 669 East 5th Street on December 5th.

On arrival police said they located a 62-year-old man who had barricaded himself in the apartment. Once they gained entry into the unit, police located 60-year-old Karen Barnes deceased in the kitchen, and the victim’s ex-boyfriend in another room, suffering from a cut to his chest. Police said her death is suspicious and cause of death has not been released.

The man was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, and is currently in police custody. He has been charged with manslaughter and criminal negligent homicide.
