62-year-old John Edwards an innocent bystander in a Bronx 4th of July shooting

NYPD said a shooting broke out on Prospect Ave. near E. 187th St. in Belmont on July 4th just before 10:30am. A man opened fire from a white Ford Taurus aiming for two men when he accidentally struck John Edwards in the chest.

Edwards was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital where he died of his injuries. Two other men, 23-years-old, and 26-years-old were treated for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Police located the vehicle later in the day and took a man into custody. Investigators have not released if the man they arrested was the shooter.
