NYPD responded to a report of a man in a U-Haul truck striking pedestrians in the Bay Ridge area of Brooklyn on February 13th at approximately 10:50am.
Police blocked the vehicle near the entrance of the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel and arrested the 62-year-old driver Weng Sor. According to reports Sor was homeless and was living in the U-Haul. Sor was known to police and has a history of mental illness.
44-year-old single dad of three, Yijie Ye, was working his job as an uber eats driver when he was fatally struck. Another man has been put into a medically induced coma and 7 other men, including a police officer, were injured in the attack.
Police stated there no indication that there is any terrorism involvement in this incident.
NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said “He states when he’s driving his van, he sees an invisible object come towards the car and at that point, he says, ‘I’ve had enough’ and he goes on his rampage.’”
