65-year-old Brooklyn Woman questioned in connection to a fire that killed her 70-year-old roommate

Emergency crews were called to an apartment fire at 371 Monroe St. at approximately 11:15 p.m. on May 24th.

Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters located a 70-year-old man unresponsive in a bedroom, and a 65-year-old woman who suffered smoke inhalation. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene, and the woman was taken to Woodhull Hospital, in stable condition.

FDNY marshals determined that the fire had been deliberately set. Police believe the victim and woman lived together but have not released their relationship.

According to reports, the woman is the person of interest and charges against her are pending.
