NYPD responded to the report of a stabbing at Randall’s Island Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Center (HERRC) inside the cafeteria, on January 6th at approximately 7:27 p.m.

Police located the victim, who was suffering from a stab wound to his chest. The victim, 24-year-old Dafren Canizalez, was rushed to hospital where he died of his injuries.

Police believe Dafren Canizalez was killed in a group attack inside the tent city’s cafeteria. Investigators said the stabbing was the result of the accused speaking to the victim’s girlfriend

27-year-old Moises Coronado, 27-year-old Anthony Navas and 33-year-old Ferneys Horta were charged with murder and gang assault.
