Fatal Staten Island shooting of 15-year-old Steven Estevez deemed a homicide, brother charged

NYPD responded to the report of a shooting inside a home in the area of Thompson Street and Bay Street at around 11:55 p.m. on February 16th.

On arrival police located 15-year-old Steven Estevez in critical condition, suffering from a gunshot wound to his head. The teen was rushed to Richmond University Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

The victim’s 17-year-old brother was arrested on February 17 and charged with felony counts of criminal possession of a loaded firearm and assault, and a misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a weapon.

Police announced on February 28th that the shooting has been deemed a homicide, however, they did not say if the charges would be upgraded.
