NYPD said an unconscious and unresponsive man with trauma to the face was located at an apartment building on McBride St. near Regina Ave on February 3rd at approximately 12:44am.

The deceased has been identified as Calvin Alexander, 68. Police said they believed he had been lying there for several days before the discovery. NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said “There was blood on the walls, blood on the closets, and blood on the bed.”

The victim’s previously homeless roommate Gyasi “Eli” Denis, 35, was arrested Saturday evening and charged with manslaughter, burglary, weapons possession, drug possession and possession of a stolen credit card.

According to reports Denis showed up at Alexander’s apartment and repeatedly struck him in the head and body with a wooden object and bit him all over his face and body, before choking him to death.

Police believe an argument over money and drugs sparked the fatal confrontation. Denis was initially interviewed as a witness, but while being interviewed by police, he fessed up to the murder, saying it lasted about 20 minutes.
