Update Jahmel Sanders arrested in the 2022 homicide of Nikki Huang, and Jesse Parrilla – Man and woman found in a burnt-out vehicle in the Bronx are the victims of a homicide

Emergency crews were called to the report of a car fire on Shore Road in Pelham Bay Par in the Bronx on Monday May 16th at around 4:15 a.m.

Two bodies were located inside the vehicle, however, at the time police could not initially not identify them.

On May 18th police announced that the victims were Nikki Huang, 23, and Jesse Parrilla, 22, and the cause of death was a shooting. P

Police believe the events that led to the murder and burning of the car erupted after Huang, 23, was robbed near a housing project on the Lower East Side. Investigators said the assailants were allegedly members of a local crew that calls itself the Down the Hill Gang. According to reports Hyang’s family has connections to the rival Up the Hill gang. She didn’t report the mugging to the police but did to her family. Police said the gang members targeted Huang for kidnapping while she was hanging out with Parrilla.

Update July 29th
NYPD are looking to speak to Steven Santiago, 34, and Jahmel Sanders, 30 in relation to the homicides.

Update March 9th 2023
Jahmel Sanders, 31, was arrested on Tuesday March 7th, at a Bronx homeless shelter. Sanders has been charged with murder, manslaughter, robbery, grand larceny, kidnapping and arson for his role in the homicides. Police believe the motive was the result of a gang war over a stolen purse.
