Jordan Neely choked to death after making threats to others on a Manhattan Subway

NYPD were called to the northbound F train just before 2:30 p.m. on May 1st at the Broadway – Lafayette stop.

On arrival police learned 30-year-old Jordan Neely was acting erratically, and threatening commuters. Another subway rider Daniel Penny, a 24-year-old Marine, put Neeley into a chokehold that caused the man to lose consciousness. Despite lifesaving efforts the man died at the scene.

Neely, 30, was a known subway rider, eyewitnesses said Neely was yelling, however he did not physically touch anyone.

A 24-year-old man was taken into custody. The man who died was known to authorities and had several prior arrests police said.

Update Manhattan prosecutors announced that a criminal charge against Daniel Penny, 24, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran has been set. Penny turned himself in at a Manhattan police station on a charge of manslaughter.
