Second suspect arrested – Maria Hernandez was found dead & tied up in her Upper West Side apartment, Police say her death was a murder

NYPS said they responded to a report of a deceased woman, after receiving a call from the victim’s sister on January 18th at approximately 10:00pm.

On arrival police located Maria Hernandez, 75, bound and gagged face down on the floor of her ransacked bedroom with clothes piled on top of her. Investigators said her death is being investigated as a homicide.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry, and nothing was taken from her apartment.

Update: Lashawn Mackey, 47, of Brooklyn was arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder and two counts of burglary in the death of Maria Hernandez. Her cause of death was ruled homicidal asphyxia including compression of neck.

According to reports “The building superintendent said someone used a crowbar to break into the basement and remove a DVR with security footage.”

Update January 26th
Terrence Moore, 53, of Brooklyn, on January 24th and charged with murder and two counts of burglary.
