Melvin Urena shot & killed while riding a scooter in the Bronx

NYPD said Melvin Urena, 19, was driving down East 156th St. on a motorized scooter when two men exited a gray SUV and at least one opened fire near Elton Ave. on July 2nd at approximately 1:30 p.m.

During the shootout, Urena was accidentally struck by a bullet fired by his friend, Francisco Bengochea, who was sitting on the back of the scooter as he returned fire. Investigators noted that one of the bullets from the gunman in the SUV also struck Urena.

Urea was rushed to hospital with injuries to his head and right leg where he died of his injuries.

Bengochea, 19, was arrested and charged with murder later that day. The Shooter from the SUV is still on the loose.
