Michelle Go was waiting for the Southbound R train at the Times Square station alone, at West 42nd Street and Broadway around 9:30 a.m on January 15th when she was attacked by a man.
Go was shoved onto the tracks, and was struck by the oncoming train and killed. Police said the incident was unprovoked, and the victim did not appear to have any interaction with the accused.
The accused is 61-year-old Simon Martial, is known to police, and investigators said it is unclear if Go was targeted because of her race. Martial, of no fixed address, took a train to Canal Street before turning himself in. He was charged with second-degree murder.
According to The New York post The accused souted at reporters ““Yeah because I’m God. Yes I did. I’m God, I can do it, she stole my f—ing jacket, that’s why,””
Update March 23rd
Simon Martial has been held at Bellevue in Manhattan since his arrest, and a court official said Martial is mentally unfit to stand trial. According to reports Martial was diagnosed with schizophrenia over 20 years ago.
