NYPD said 1-month-old Joseph Heben Jr. was taken to a state Island hospital unconscious in July. Police have not said who brought the infant in.

Following a lengthy investigation, on November 5th the New York City medical examiner deemed the case a homicide, and said Joseph died of malnutrition.

Police have not announced charges and said the investigation is ongoing.
