Update: Three arrested, two outstanding – NYC cab driver dies after being struck in Queens

NYPD were called to the report of an injured man at the corner of Beach 54 Street and Arverne Boulevard in Edgemere just before 6:30 a.m. on August 13th.

On arrival police and paramedics arrived to find 52-year-old Kutin Gyimah of the Bronx laying on the roadway with trauma to the back of his head. He

Police said the five passengers in Gyimah’s yellow New York City taxi minivan attempted to rob Gyimah and commit fare evasion. The suspects chased Gyimah, and he was struck by one or more of the suspects causing him to hit his head on the pavement. He was rushed to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Police said the suspects are three men and two women who fled the scene in an unknown direction. The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers is offering $15,000 for any information on the suspects who beat taxi driver Kutin Gyimah to death.

A gofundme campaign has been made to assist the family with funeral expenses.

Update:
On August 18th police arrested 20-year-old Austin Amos. Investigators said he faces charges of manslaughter, gang assault, assault and theft of services. 20-year-old Nickolas Porter, was arrested and faces charges of gang assault and theft of services. And lastly, a 15-year-old girl was arrested and faces charges of gang assault and theft of services.

Police believe the other suspects are two teenage girls between the ages of 13 and 16.
