Gunfire broke out around 12:20 a.m. on May 29 at the intersection of New Haven Avenue and Beach 19th Street, according to law enforcement sources.

Responding to a 911 call reporting shots fired, officers from the 101st Precinct arrived to find two men wounded: a 42-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds to the torso, and a 36-year-old man shot in the back. Investigators say the two, who were friends, were walking in the area when two men dressed in all black approached them and opened fire. The reason behind the shooting is still unclear.

Emergency medical teams transported both victims to Jamaica Hospital. The 42-year-old man was later pronounced dead; police are withholding his name until his family is notified. The 36-year-old victim is currently in stable condition.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with tips about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
