NYPD investigate a fatal shooting that claimed the life of an 18-year-old man in broad daylight on Sunday afternoon in Coney Island

According to the NYPD, officers from the 60th Precinct responded to reports of gunfire just after 5:45 p.m. on April 27 at the intersection of West 36th Street and Surf Avenue.

On arrival police found the teenage victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Emergency medical services arrived quickly and transported him to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn in critical condition. Despite efforts to save him, the young man later died from his injuries.

Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name, pending notification of his family. As of late Sunday evening, police had not identified a suspect, and no arrests had been made.
