NYPD were called to the corner of Varick and Spring Streets at 2:41 p.m. on May 7th.
On arrival police located 16-year-old Mahki Brown with a gunshot wound to the back of his head, and twice in his leg. EMS rushed Brown to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
According to reports Brown was wounded while trying to break up a fight between fellow students from Broome Street Academy.
Police believe the suspect may gang gang-related. Chief Kenny said witnesses reported that at least one of the killers yelled “Whoopty,” meaning they may have an affiliation with the Woo street gang.
