According to reports Sgt. Erik Duran was undercover during an operation on Aug. 23, 2023. Duran allegedly lured Eric Duprey into selling him drugs in Kingsbridge Heights.

Duran informed Duprey that he was a law enforcement officer, and attempted to arrest him, however, Duprey attempted to flee on his moped. The Sergeant allegedly threw a plastic cooler at Duprey, causing him to fall off his scooter and hit his head on the ground. He was pronounced at the scene.

As a result of the investigation, the city medical examiner classified the death as a homicide. 

On January 23rd Sergeant Erik Duran was charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, and assault.
