NYPD responded to a wellness check on January 14 at approximately 5:00 pm at an Apartment on 70th Avenue, after Jose Portillo the building’s super went to collect rent, and never returned.

Police arrived to find Portillo’s body stuffed inside a garbage bag and hidden under a bed in the apartment’s ground-floor unit.

Sandra Cotto Navarro, 48, was charged with murder, tampering with evidence and criminal possession of a weapon for allegedly beating and stabbing Portillo to death.

According to reports, Navarro’s husband was at work at the time of the murder but found Portillo murdered when he arrived home.

Police said he is not expected to be charged in connection to the homicide.
