Shwesin Nyuntwai fatally stabbed in Queens is NYC’s first homicide of 2022

NYPD responded to the report of a stabbing after a woman was discovered by a pedestrian lying in a pool of blood at 21st Street and Broadway in Astoria around 8:50 p.m on January 1st 2022. 

Police said Shwesin Nyuntwa, 41 was seen walking with an unidentified man, just before being stabbed multiple times in her upper left back, left breast and twice just below her left shoulder. She was rushed to Astoria General Hospital where she died of her injuries. 

A 60-year-old man who was being sought after for the slaying was found deceased in  his apartment on 33rd Avenue. There were no signs of trauma to his body.

Police have no information on a motive, and no arrests have been made.
