Update: Suspect Arrested – Police say SOHO shooter sought for multiple shootings of homeless people in DC and NYC

NYPD responded to report of a shooting at the corner of King and Varick on March 12th at approximately 4:30 am.

On arrival police located a homeless man suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm. According to report, the victim was sleeping and screamed “What are you doing?” sending the assailant running down King. The victim was taken to hospital and is in stable condition.

The second shooting occured at approximately 6:00am outside 148 Lafayette Street. Security footage captured the assailant kicking a 38-year-old sleeping man, before pulling out a gun and shooting him in the head and the neck. Police responded to a 911 call at approximately 11 hours later at 6:00pm, where the victim was pronounced at the scene.

No arrests have been made, NYPD and DC Police said are attempting to identify and apprehend the pictured suspect who is being sought for multiple shootings of homeless people in both DC and NYC. Police said the first three confirmed shootings took place in DC on March 3rd when the suspect shot and wounded a male victim on the 1100 block of New York Avenue. On March 8th the suspect shot another man on the 1700 block of H Street. Both men suffered non life-threatening injuries. The third victim was allegedly fatally stabbed and shot on March 9th. His remains were located after an encampment fire on the 400 block of New York Avenue in DC.

Update March 15th
Police said they received over a dozen Crime Stoppers tips and described Gerald Brevard III as a “strong person of interest” in the NYC shootings. Brevard was arrested in DC in the evening of Tuesday March 14th. NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said Brevard was unarmed at the time of his arrest.

Brevard faces several charges, including first-degree murder in relation to the death of 54-year-old Morgan Holmes.
