NYPD responded to reports of a woman calling for help inside an apartment located at 111 Chrystie St. near Grand St. on February 13th at approximately 4:20am.
Police arrived to find the door barricaded shut, and could hear the victim screaming inside. According to reports investigators have surveillance footage showing a man following the victim into her building. Police said it’s unclear if they were known to each other.
Police surrounded the building and were able to access the unit after over an hour. Inside they located 35-year-old Christina Yuna Lee, suffering from multiple stab wounds in the bathroom. She was pronounced at the scene.
Police found the accused Assamad Nash, 25, inside the apartment and covered in blood. Nash allegedly tried to flee via the fire escape before barricading himself inside the unit attempting to hide under a bed.
According to The New York Post “Nash, 25, is a homeless career criminal with three open cases and a record of several escapes from police custody.”
Update
Nash has been indicted on first-degree murder, first-degree burglary and first-degree burglary as a sexually motivated felony.
