Update: Lashawn Duffie charged with the brutal murder of Sugerys Ramirez, who was found deceased in a Brooklyn fire

NYPD said Sugerys Ramirez, 40, was located following a fire at an apartment at a building on Van Siclen Avenue near Fulton Street on November 11th.

Ramirez was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Police said the medical examiner determined that Ramirez died of homicidal violence, including thermal injuries.

Update: Lashawn Duffie, 28, has been arrested and charged with murder and kidnapping. Police said Duffy allegedly tied Ramirez to a chair and set her on fire. According to the prosecutors in the case, the events leading up to her death began outside Ramirez’s apartment building on November 11th over some of Duffie’s ruined belongings. Duffie was later caught on a store’s security camera purchasing twine and lighter fluid.

Police said Duffie and Ramirez had been in a relationship at one time.

He has been held on $500,000 cash bail or a $1 million bond.
