NYPD were called to a shooting shortly after 3:30 p.m, on September 21st at the Ocean Bay Apartments near 51-24 Beach Channel Drive in the Edgemere neighborhood.
According to police, officers responding to the location found Malakai Adams with a gunshot wound to his back. He was transported to Cohen Children’s Medical Center in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.
Investigators believe the shooting may have occurred during an attempted robbery of Adams’ scooter.
Police described the suspect as a man wearing a black sweatshirt and white shorts. Authorities said he fled east on Beach 51st Street on a scooter believed to have belonged to the victim.
