2-Year-Old Boy Dies After Alleged Assault by Father at Queens Hotel Shelter

NYC 2026 Homicide Victim List

Police say Dayvon Morrison was intoxicated while alone with his son, Maliek Williams, 2, on Feb 6th at the Manhattan View Hotel in Long Island City, which has been functioning as a homeless shelter.

Maliek was taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center in critical condition with multiple injuries, including a fractured pelvis and severe head trauma, prosecutors said. He died Wednesday night, his family confirmed to NBC New York.

According to a criminal complaint, Morrison claims he does not remember harming his son. He did, however, acknowledge noticing multiple bruises on the child’s face but did not seek medical care, prosecutors said.

Morrison was arrested Tuesday night on charges of attempted murder and two counts of assault. The Queens District Attorney’s office confirmed the charges will be upgraded following the child’s death.
