A 25-year-old man, Jyrell Thomas, has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in connection with the fatal stabbing of 59-year-old fellow J train passenger Mesias Lojano in Queens.
Police said Thomas appeared agitated and was pacing inside a train car before approaching Lojano shortly after 4 p.m. on September 30th. Lojano reportedly tried to move away, but Thomas allegedly attacked him with a kitchen knife.
The confrontation continued onto the subway platform, where witnesses chased Thomas. One bystander, Bismarck Villareyna, recorded the incident and later helped police locate Thomas. Police eventually found him on a rooftop and took him into custody.
Thomas was initially taken to Jamaica Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and was described by police as emotionally disturbed.
