Update: Arrest made – 34-year-old man fatally stabbed while sleeping on a Manhattan park bench

NYPD were called to the report of a stabbing at Hudson River Park at West Street and Christopher Street, at approximately 4:40am on July 5th.

On arrival police and paramedics located a 34-year-old man suffering from a stab wound to the stomach. He was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he died of his injuries. The victim’s identity hasn’t been released.

Police said the victim was sleeping on the park bench and the motive is unclear.

Investigators announced that they are searching for a Black Man who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with the words “Innocence Project” written on the front.

NYPD said the suspect is wanted for two other recent non-fatal knife attacks on sleeping men around Manhattan. 

Update July 13th
NYPD have arrested Trevon Murphy, 40 in relation to the random stabbings and the homicide. Investigators have not released what charges he is facing. Police received a tip from a retired correctional officer identifying the suspect.
