Brooklyn Shooting Leaves 24-Year-Old Tatiana Pettus Dead; Boyfriend Turns Himself In

Authorities said the NYPD received a 911 call shortly before 11:30 p.m. on June 30 about an assault taking place at an apartment building on Foster Avenue. Officers responded to the scene and entered a basement apartment, where they discovered Tatiana Pettus, 24, suffering from a gunshot wound to her neck.

Pettus was transported by emergency medical personnel to Kings County Hospital, but she later died from her injuries.

Investigators said Pettus’ boyfriend, Tahj Nelson, 23, turned himself in to police on July 6th 2026. He has been charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Sources familiar with the investigation said the incident was reported to police by the suspect’s mother, who called 911.
