Franklin Batallas, 44, was taken into custody on Friday September 19th, and charged with murder, two counts of assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Police said the charges stem from the killing of his girlfriend 30-year-old Anthonella Contreras Linarez, who was found fatally stabbed on City Island on September 17th.
Batallas told police that both he and Linarez had been attacked by unknown assailants on mopeds near Park Drive and City Island Road around 8 p.m. He claimed he was stabbed in the arm and drove them both to a hospital, where Linarez was pronounced dead.
However, after further investigation, police determined that Batallas had lied and was responsible for the attack. Authorities say the couple had been in the midst of a breakup at the time of the incident.
