Update: Arrest made – Jennifer Ynoa and her dog fatally shot inside a Brooklyn Smoke Shop

Police were called to the report of a shooting at Salim Smoke Shop on DeKalb Avenue at approximately 9:45pm on January 2nd. 

According to reports, the suspect opened fire from the doorway of the shop striking Jennifer Ynoa, 36, and her 1-year-old pit bull. Ynoa and her dog exited the store and immediately collapsed on the sidewalk. Her dog died at the scene. She was rushed to hospital where she died of her injuries. 

Surveillance footage from inside the store shows Ynoa standing with her dog and man standing behind them. The man ran to the back of the store when the shots were fired. Ynoa is not known to police, and investigators are trying to determine if the man was the intended target.

Update February 23rd
Namel Colon, 36, was arrested at a Chinese restaurant in Queens on February 22nd, and charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon in relation to the homicide of Jennifer Ynoa. Colon was known to police and allegedly has several felony charges on his record.
