The 2025 NYC Homicide Victim List is available here.

A 27-year-old man, Shane Tamura, opened fire inside a Midtown Manhattan office building Monday evening, killing four people—including an off-duty NYPD officer—and critically injuring a fifth person, before taking his own life, authorities said.

The shooting took place around 6:30 p.m. at 345 Park Avenue, home to the NFL and Blackstone offices. Tamura, who was wearing body armor and armed with an M4 rifle, began shooting in the lobby before heading to the 33rd floor, where he ultimately shot himself.

Police say Tamura traveled from Las Vegas in a BMW and had a Nevada permit to carry a concealed weapon. A note found on him mentioned suffering from CTE and referenced the NFL, though the message was described as rambling. Officers found more weapons and ammunition in his vehicle, along with prescription medication.

Among those killed was Officer Didarul Islam, who was working security while off duty. He had served nearly four years with the NYPD and leaves behind a wife, two sons, and an unborn child.

Another victim was Wesley LePatner, the Global Head of Core+ Real Estate and the Chief Executive Officer of Blackstone Real Estate Income Trust (BREIT).

According to reports, the third victim was Aland Etienne, a security officer.

Rudin Management employee Julia Hyman, was also named as a victim.

NYPD said Tamura, who believed he suffered from CTE, left a suicide note.

“Terry Long football gave me CTE, and it caused me to drink a gallon of antifreeze. You can’t go against the NFL, they’ll squash you. Please study the brain for CTE. I’m sorry the league knowingly concealed the dangers to our brains to maximize profits. They failed us,” one of the shooter’s notes read.
