A fatal shooting broke out late Monday morning inside a convenience store near the corner of 8th Avenue and West 39th Street, just a few blocks from the Port Authority Bus Terminal. The incident happened at approximately 10:25 a.m. on Feb. 12.
Police said two men were involved in an argument inside the store when one of them pulled out a firearm and began shooting. The 43-year-old Mark Jackson was struck in the neck.
Officers from the Midtown South Precinct responded to the scene, along with EMS personnel, who pronounced the man dead at the location. Authorities have not yet released his identity.
AMNY reported that the victim is believed to have been a local panhandler who was known in the area for holding doors open for residents and workers.
Update: NYPD has released an image of the suspect. Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to come forward.
