Police responded to a wellness check on three children after their mother allegedly confessed to relatives that she killed her children.

Police said Zachary Merdy, 7, Lilana Merdy, 4, and Oliver Bondarev, 3 months, were found unconscious and unresponsive on the beach in the area of Riegelmann Boardwalk and West 35th on Sept 12th at approximately 4:42am. Their mother Erin Merdy was located on the boardwalk in Brighton Beach, approximately two miles east of where the children were found.

The children were rushed to Coney Island Hospital, where they were officially pronounced dead.

NYPD said the mother of three children, who has been identified by news outlets as Erin Merdy, 30, has been hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation after being questioned by police. Police said Merdy may have been suffering from postpartum depression.

Merdy is facing a first-degree murder charge x 3.
