Emergency crews responded to the report of a foul odor coming from an apartment unit on Ogden Ave. near W. 167th St. in Highbridge on May 7th.
Police had to force their way into the locked apartment where they located Norayshma Fernandez, 34, face-down on the floor in a bedroom, wrapped in a blue and white comforter and had a plastic bag covering her head. Police believe that she had been deceased for days. Police said the cause of death was homicidal asphyxiation.
Police said the victim lived in a shelter on Sedgwick Ave, and they are unsure what she was doing in the apartment where she was located. Police have yet to locate the apartment’s tenant.
