The NYPD were called to a shooting at around 1:32 a.m. on July 5 after staff at Brookdale University Hospital contacted authorities to report that a gunshot victim had been brought to the emergency room.

The victim, Tyrone Simmons, suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was transported to the hospital in a private vehicle. Despite medical efforts, Simmons was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival.

Following an initial investigation, police determined the shooting took place outside P.S. 174, located at 574 Dumont Avenue in the New Lots section of Brooklyn.

The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time.
