Queens Man Albert Itzkowitz, 75, Found Fatally Shot Near Kissena Lake in Apparent Homicide

NYC 2026 Homicide Victim List

NYPD officers responded to Kissena Park in Queens shortly before 5 p.m. on May 18 after reports of an unconscious man near Kissena Lake. Upon arrival, police discovered 75-year-old Albert Itzkowitz suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the neck and torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities later ruled the death a homicide. Investigators said no weapon was recovered, and the isolated area of the park had no nearby surveillance cameras or known witnesses, complicating the investigation.

Police said Itzkowitz lived more than two miles from where his body was found. It remains unclear whether he was specifically targeted or the victim of a random act of violence.

Friends and neighbors described Itzkowitz as a well-known and respected member of the Kew Gardens Hills community. The retired baker previously owned Mendy’s Bakery on Main Street and volunteered with Hatzolah for many years. Loved ones also revealed that his death came just weeks after the passing of his wife following an illness.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this homicide can call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (for Spanish, dial 888-57-PISTA).
