A 33-year-old Queens man is facing multiple charges, including murder, arson, and weapons possession, after authorities say he fatally shot his mother and sister before setting their Far Rockaway home on fire on July 25th.
Police responded after the suspect’s wife called 911, warning that he was armed with a shotgun and intended to kill someone. As officers arrived, the house erupted in flames, and the suspect allegedly emerged carrying a shotgun, a tactical vest, and extra ammunition. After he reportedly ignored repeated commands to drop the weapon, officers shot and arrested him.
Inside the home, police found two women with fatal gunshot wounds. The victims were identified as 56-year-old Clemer Ponce and 28-year-old Selena Ponce. Both women were pronounced deceased at the scene.
Kegan Thomas was charged with murder, attempted murder, arson, two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and criminal possession of a weapon.
