The NYPD responded to the apartment at 535 W. 156th St. on Sept 6th after a relative requested a wellness check. Officers discovered Lovay Williams, 27, unresponsive on a bed with injuries to her face and neck. Police said the victim’s 5-year-old opened the door for authorities.
Authorities are treating Williams’ death as a possible homicide. The city medical examiner is expected to determine the official cause of death.
Police sources said Williams’ young daughter answered the door when officers arrived. The child reportedly told investigators that she and her mother lived with a roommate. However, neighbors said they were not aware of another person regularly living in the apartment.
Security footage from the building also captured a man entering and leaving the apartment Sunday morning. A neighbor said the man appeared to leave carrying several garbage bags filled with belongings. Police have not publicly confirmed whether the man is connected to Williams’ death.
