According to police, officers responded to the building at 40 West 115th Street shortly after 6:20 p.m. on October 7th following a ShotSpotter alert at the King Towers public housing complex.
Upon arrival, they found teenager Jihad Pack suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach and a 57-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his right hand.
Pack, who lived at the housing complex, was transported to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries. The older victim was taken to Harlem Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators believe the 57-year-old man was an innocent bystander struck by a stray bullet.
Police took a person of interest into custody during the initial investigation. However, charges had not yet been announced as detectives continued gathering evidence.
