A 39-year-old man was fatally shot outside a Bronx shelter Tuesday evening in what police described as a targeted, execution-style attack.

NYPD said the shooting happened around 6:50 p.m. near Grand Avenue and West 190th Street in the Fordham neighbourhood. Police said the victim was walking with a woman when a gunman approached the pair and opened fire at close range.

Police said at least seven shots were fired in total.

The victim died at the scene. His identity had not been released as police worked to notify his family.

The suspected shooter fled the area and, so far, no arrests have been made.

The investigation remains ongoing as police work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting and identify the person responsible.
