NYPD said 32-year-old, Erin Piacenti was fatally stabbed on Aug. 31. According to reports, 49-year-old woman, Pamela Cisneros, attacked two people with knives before officers intervened; Cisneros was killed by police at the scene.

A 68-year-old man was also stabbed and remained in stable condition. Authorities said the attack appeared to be unprovoked, and the investigation is ongoing. Bank of America expressed shock and sympathy for Piacenti’s family and loved ones.

The incident has drawn attention because it occurred in one of Manhattan’s busiest tourist areas and follows other violent attacks involving employees of major financial firms. Despite such high-profile incidents, New York police reported that shootings and murders were down during the first seven months of 2026, with July recording a record-low number of shooting incidents.
