NYPD were called to a building on West 129th Street near St. Nicholas Terrace after reports of an assault around 4:30 a.m. on November 10th.
When officers reached the third floor, they found a 47-year-old woman who had been stabbed multiple times. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was later identified as Carmen Lopez and pronounced dead.
Neighbors said Lopez, a longtime resident of the building and mother of four, was well-known for walking her children to school each day.
The suspect, 41-year-old Luis Marquez of the Bronx, allegedly fled the scene after the stabbing. He was taken into custody on Tuesday, just before 4 p.m. that day, and now faces charges in connection with the killing.
