NYPD were alerted of a shooting just before 7:30 p.m. on August 23 near Haffen Park at Burke Avenue and Wickham Avenue, where a crowd had gathered for a basketball game.

When officers arrived, they found a 32-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest and a 17-year-old girl shot in the face. Both victims were rushed to Jacobi Hospital by EMS. The man was later pronounced dead, while the teen remains in critical condition. Police have not yet released the deceased man’s name, pending family notification.

Meanwhile, three other gunshot victims arrived at local hospitals on their own, where they are listed in stable condition. A 42-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the arm was taken privately to Montefiore Hospital and is also expected to recover.
