Kavone Horton Charged in Fatal Shooting of NYC Deli Worker Abdul Saleh in the East Village

NYPD saiis officers responded to a 911 call around 11:38 p.m. and found two 28-year-old men suffering from gunshot wounds to the torso. Both were taken to hospital, where one, identified as Abdul Saleh, a well-known local deli worker, was pronounced dead. The second man survived and is in stable condition.

Investigators believe the incident stemmed from an argument that began inside the store and escalated into violence on the street. Sources indicate the surviving man Kavone Horton, 28, who resides near where the shooting took place, has been charged with murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon. Horton’s injury may have been caused by a ricocheted bullet.

The shooting has shaken the local community, where Saleh was remembered by friends and neighbors as a friendly and well-liked figure.
