Police from the 79th Precinct responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting just before 11 p.m. on Jan. 17 outside 134 Stockton St., near Success Academy Charter School.
When officers arrived, they found Elquan Tillman, 26, lying face down near scaffolding with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, law enforcement sources said. Investigators recovered at least nine shell casings at the scene.
Tillman was shot just one block from his home. EMS transported him to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said they did not immediately have a description of the shooter or a motive for the killing. Tillman was known to law enforcement. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing.
